TIRANA, April 19 /ATA/ The emergency situation created by the spike in prices of oil and gas products and by-products in the Albanian market due to international market disruptions has rendered necessary the intervention of the government.

Through a Normative Act, the government put in place special measures for private or public operators, domestic or foreign, whose scope of activity is the refining, transportation and trade of oil, gas and by-products throughout the duration of the situation in the Albanian market, driven by international market disruptions.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Ilir Bejtja, rolled out the Normative Act at the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance.

Bejtja said that the Transparency Board was set up to keep the situation in check through this normative act. It consists of the minister responsible for the economy, in the capacity of chairman; minister responsible for hydrocarbons; director of tax administration; director of customs administration; representatives from hydrocarbon companies, among which 3 representatives from wholesale companies and 2 representatives of hydrocarbons retail trade.

Deputy Minister also outlined the methodology followed for setting the price cap.

“The board sets the selling price cap for diesel, gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas. The price is fixed based on the price set by the stock market in Platts a day before, to this is added an absolute value of 3 lek for the wholesale companies and 12 lek for the retail companies, ” Bejtja said.
Bejtja announced that the prices set by the decision of the Board are mandatory for all companies.
