TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, participated on Thursday in the reception on the occasion of the Independence Day of the USA.

In his speech, Begaj said that, “this date has gone down in the history of humanity as a monument of commemoration and honoring the values of freedom, democracy and human dignity. In 1776, the founders of the United States of America made a bold statement: “All men are created equal, and they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights of life, liberty, and among these are Life, Liberty and pursuit of happiness.”
Begaj emphasized that Albania is deeply inspired by the American principles of freedom and democracy.

“The relationship between Albania and the United States is proof of the enduring power of these principles and the profound impact they have on determining the destiny of a nation, our nation,” said Begaj.
The Head of State underlined that the historical friendship between our two peoples is built on mutual respect, shared values and commitments to peace and prosperity.
“Albanians have known throughout the centuries to keep unchanged their sacred code of friendship, gratitude and loyalty to a friend. Albanians never forget those who helped them, stood by them and gave them a hand in times of adversity,” emphasized Begaj.
“The United States was by our side at the beginning of the 20th century, when Albania was seeking to become independent and free. President Wilson was the strongest advocate of the Albanians’ right to self-determination and protection from fragmentation. His attitude was vital for the Albanian state. This support and friendship did not end there. After half a century of isolation, America was first to support us, guide and help us in establishing a new, free, democratic and pluralistic system”, said Begaj.
“America was there again, next to the Albanians, in the spring of 1999. NATO, led by the United States, stopped the Serbian genocide and paved the way for the establishment of the second Albanian state, the Republic of Kosovo. The intervention of the United States was crucial for the liberation of Kosovo. This decisive action brought not only peace to the region, but also strengthened the principles of justice and human rights”, added Begaj.
The Head of State further stated that the United States has strongly supported Albania’s membership in NATO and the process towards integration into the European Union.
“This support has been essential in strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law, promoting economic development and strengthening our security. One of the most important contributions of the United States to Albania remains the reform of justice, essential for the health of our democracy and the path to integration in the European Union”, said Begaj.

Begaj underlined that, “today, in a world full of uncertainty and challenges, the relationship between Albania and the United States remains more important than ever. The global landscape is characterized by overlapping crises, the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, geopolitical tensions, economic instability and threats to freedom, democracy and human rights. In such a volatile world, our strategic partnership serves as a pillar of strength and collective security.”
