The Begaj – Von Der Leyen meeting revolved around the acceleration of the EU accession process, the security situation in Europe and the Western Balkans, regional cooperation from the perspective of the Berlin Process.

“Albania stands firm on its pathway to the European Union,” President Begaj underlined in this meeting.
Regarding the critical security situation that Europe and the Western Balkans are going through, President Begaj assured Mrs. Von Der Leyen that “Albania continues to support and be aligned with the foreign and security policies of the EU.”

President Begaj availed himself of the opportunity to welcome the positions of the European Union on stabilization of peace in the region, demanding the condemnation of Serbian Sept 24 terrorist attack against Kosovo.

Describing as a historic event the holding of the Summit of the leaders of the Berlin Process for the first time in a Western Balkan country, President Begaj said that he is confident that this summit will foster better relations between the countries of the Western Balkans and will lay the groundwork for the creation of a single economic market in the region which will later merge with the single market of the European Union.
