TIRANA, July 7 /ATA/ President of the Republic Bajram Begaj, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, called for Kosovo and Serbia to act in accordance with the agreements reached in international forums.

The Head of State, Begaj, at the joint press conference with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, stated that Albania supports lasting peace in the South Caucasus region.

“With President Aliyev, we also discussed issues of paramount importance in foreign policy. I have closely followed the recent talks in Washington between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Albania supports lasting peace in the South Caucasus region, mediated by reliable partners. I expressed to President Aliyev that Albania has always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the enforcement of the resolutions of the UN Security Council,” said Begaj, who also drew attention to the tensions in the north of Kosovo.

“Even in the Western Balkan region, dialogue is very important to see each other, not through the lens of yesterday’s resentment, but to see each other through the opportunities of the future,” Begaj emphasized.

“I expressed the conviction that regional stability in the Western Balkans is a necessary element. Kosovo and Serbia are negotiating parties for the resolution of any dispute and the building of a new spirit of cooperation between each other. Respecting the terms agreed upon by the parties, both agreements between them and in international forums, should be a guiding compass towards lasting peace,” the Head of State underlined.

“Prosperity rather than conflict should be the guiding compass for the progress of bilateral and regional relations. The more often something like this happens, the more beneficial it will be for our peoples,” Begaj said in his speech.
