TIRANA, Jan  5 /ATA/ The construction of the three piers in Shkodra, as well as the cross-border connection by navigation and road with the villages on the shore of the lake in Montenegro, will open up a completely different perspective for tourism in this area.

The Socialist Party MP in the district of Shkodra, Benet Beci, informed on Thursday about the project being built by the Albanian Development Fund with co-financing from the European Union and the Albanian government.

“I believe, like many other families from Shkodra, I also grew up listening to beautiful stories of boats and ships that were moored in Lake Buna and used for trade when Shkodra was an economic hub of the entire region. While sailing for commercial purposes has been replaced by more modern modes of transport, I firmly believe that Lake Buna should be a great home for vessels for tourism, sports and entertainment,” Beci writes on social media.

Beci added that while we lost a lot of valuable time without taking any action in this direction, he had the pleasure of seeing first-hand the work in Zogaj for the construction of a jetty to adapt to the hydrological and meteorological characteristics of the lake.

Beci that the pier is one of three such that is being built by the Albanian Development Fund with co-financing from the European Union and the Albanian government.

Meanwhile, he emphasized that the other two will be in Shiroka and Shkodra and will create the possibility for anchoring more vessels and of a larger capacity.

“The infrastructure built by this project, which will be ready in a few months, is a step in the right direction towards a lake dotted with sailboats, ferries and canoes, always respecting the unique environmental values ​​of the lake. We need to do more to support businesses, organizations and individuals who have started taking the first steps to promote sailing on the lake, which should be an indisputable symbol of our lake,” said Beci.

He informed that the project also entails the cross-border connection by navigation and road with the villages on the shore of the lake in Montenegro.
