TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, proceeded with inspections along the Ionian coast beaches, noting that in the municipality of Himarë, public spaces have almost doubled following campaign to clean up the beaches.

Accompanied by the Minister of Interior, Ervin Hoxha, and the Mayor of Himarë, Vangjel Tavo, Kumbaro called for cooperation with the Border Police to ensure compliance with regulations governing maritime tourism vessels.

Kumbaro announced the completion of beach cleanup efforts, emphasizing ongoing cooperation between local police, the National Coast Agency, and State Police to maintain safety, including the campaign to remove unauthorized beach encroachments and the installation of safety buoys, with Border Police playing a key role in securing maritime tourism activities.

While inspecting the beaches in Himarë, the minister also urged all private beach managers to respect the 2.5–3 meter stretch along the shoreline as public space, and emphasized the need for coordination between the municipality and the National Coast Agency to maintain and clean the public beaches.

“The expansion of public spaces increases the responsibility for their maintenance and sanitation, thus making the round-the-clock cooperation between the National Coast Agency and the municipality to manage waste an even more demanding task,” the minister noted.

Furthermore, Minister Kumbaro called for the cooperation of the State Police to facilitate traffic flow during peak hours, especially on weekends.
Vangjel Tavo, Mayor of Himara, affirmed that all necessary steps have been implemented, and coordination with local businesses on space cleanup and waste management is ongoing. The municipality is now finalizing preparations for equipping the public beaches.
“Regarding the public beaches, we have made a 50-50 arrangement. On the public beaches of Himarë, the municipality will provide 250 umbrellas, which will be available free of charge to visitors,” emphasized Tavo.
