TIRANA, Jan 26 /ATA/ On Thursday, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj held a meeting with the deans and rectors of the public universities of the capital in the light of the preparations for the agenda of the European Youth Capital.

While recalling the battle for closing universities like “Vitrina” and “Kristal” and listing the investments made in universities, Veliaj underlined that this battle had to start from somewhere in order for the young people to receive the right education today.

Veliaj stated that now we are fighting the battle with the AFF in order to change the situation of sports in the country and clear the way for children and young people to pursue their dreams.

All this was impossible with universities like Kristal and Vitrina. When that battle started, I believe you remember how we came under fire from the choir of sceptics who said: you cannot beat “Kristal” or “Vitrina.” They had connections with the media, they even had their media outlets, they had links with politics, they paid for the election campaigns of all kinds of politicians, they had connections with the websites that targeted the government. Meanwhile, here we are today! Even the greatest cynic must admit that the reform worked. Today, producers of diplomas no longer exist. Today the new generation of graduates has a degree that is worth it. They should bear in mind that we won some battles when we mobilized as a society. “Their gang was invincible, but the society was mobilized and here we are today: the University of Tirana was freed from a gang”, Veliaj recalled.

For the mayor, like any other battle fought in Tirana, for the Lake Park, for the universities, the battle with the AFF will show that there are no untouchable.
