TIRANA, Dec 28 /ATA/ The Albanian government, through a normative act, decided on Thursday to establish a task force dedicated to the control of all subjects, especially in tourist areas, to improve the infrastructure for the treatment of polluted water, which is discharged into bathing waters such as the sea, rivers or lakes.

In a media statement after the government meeting, the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, said that “only 5% of the bathing water sites are of poor quality. 2023 is closing with more than 10 million tourists, even now about thousands continue to enter the Albanian territory.”

“This is the reason why we have worked during the fall of this year in terms of taking many other measures for the 2024 tourist season, which is expected to see a boom in number of tourists as well as in establishing a dedicated task force to deal with this issue,” Kumbaro said.

Minister Kumbaro stated that “this normative act comes as a joint proposal of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, to impose a strict control on the entire territory in partnership with all private entities, which should do more to improve the service and to maintain the standards related to the treatment of polluted waters, which is caused by the increase of the population in the tourist season”.

Asked by journalists if there will be measures in place, Kumbaro said that “one of the goals is to ensure strict, equal and transparent control for everyone. There will be administrative measures and penalties for all subjects “.
