TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/ Gazment Bardhi, the Chairman of the Democratic Party’s Parliamentary Group, has reacted to the electricity price cut, saying that it is driven by electoral motives.
Bardhi says that the government, “after raising electricity prices by 30%, making them the highest in the region, describes a 1 lek per kilowatt reduction as historic. However, we continue to have the highest electricity prices compared to Kosovo, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
Bardhi states, “Over the past 10 years, Rama raised electricity prices from 7.4 lek to 9.5 lek, allowing Belinda Balluku to channel more funds for corruption through tenders and by purchasing electricity at inflated prices and selling it cheaper outside the Energy Exchange. Now, it claims today is historic because we’ll pretend to lower the price by 1 lek—but only for 10 months, just to get past the elections.”

Bardhi writes, “For illustration, the average electricity price for household consumers in Kosovo is 7 lek per kilowatt.”

Bardhi stresses that the electricity price cut should not be a temporary measure for just 10 months, nor an electoral ploy, but a long-term solution, particularly for families in need or those with average incomes.
