The BoA’s objectives are to reduce the use of cash in the economy and increase electronic payments, but this does not mean that we do not improve banknotes in circulation. The new banknotes have some additional security features. At the beginning of next year, there will be two new denominations in circulation, 500 lekë and 2000 lekë,” BoA governor Sejko said. //a.i/

In the ceremony organized on this occasion, Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko said that the BoA presents today the new denominations of 1 thousand Lekë and 10 thousand Lekë, where the latter is a completely new denomination in the series of Albanian banknotes”.

Sejko stressed that the launch of the 10 thousand Lekë banknote on the market for the first time represents in itself the degree of development of the electronic payment system, as well as other indicators related to the treatment of money.

Further on, Governor Sejko mentioned some features of these new banknotes, stating that, “The 1 thousand Lekë banknote appears with a refreshed design, undergoing changes related to all elements as a whole. The 10 thousand Lekë banknote bears the symbols of our national identity, accompanied by the author of the National Anthem Aleksandër Stavër Drenova (Asdreni).

This banknote of the highest denomination accompanies the economic development of the country and – according to all analyzes – meets the market requirements to have it in the structure of the new series of legal tender banknotes.

Until now, the banknote with the highest value in our country was the one of 5 thousand Lekë. /j.p/p.s./
