TIRANA, Sept 9 /ATA/ -By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the advancement of territorial protection reform through a new package of legal measures, highlighting that they “will be among the first decisions of the new government.”

At the meeting unveiling the new legal measures for property and territorial protection, attended by representatives from key institutions and parties of interest, Prime Minister Rama stated that the package was crafted through intensive collaboration among a wide range of experts and legal specialists. He also praised the significant role played by several parliamentarians connected to the Law Commission during the process.

Prime Minister Rama expressed confidence that this package offers a comprehensive set of measures that will provide new tools to protect the territory.

“I want to thank everyone involved in this effort, which has been carried out relentlessly throughout the summer. Although nothing is perfect, I strongly believe this package provides a set of measures that will equip us with new tools to better protect our territory,” Rama said.
The Prime Minister stressed that safeguarding the territory starts with the effective completion of a continuous campaign, which will last as long as necessary—potentially throughout the entire upcoming term—without interruption and without tolerating any resurgence of illegal construction.

The Prime Minister also assured that efforts will continue on various other fronts, including the protection of architectural project copyrights.
Prime Minister Rama remarked, “Since the dawn of free-market construction in Albania, architectural projects have frequently been distorted and sometimes heavily altered by builders during the process. This effectively reduces the decisions made by local government units to mere formalities, as the safeguards intended to ensure projects comply with standards are often bypassed. A major consequence of this is the misleading of buyers, who are sold properties based on approved permits, while the finished buildings end up drastically different—like distant relatives freshly shaved and bruised after a rough ordeal. This is how projects get distorted.” /j.p/sm/
