TIRANA, Dec 14 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku inspected Wednesday the works on the Paskuqani overpass, part of the “Shqiponja” square – New Boulevard segment, lot 2.

Accompanied by the director of the Albanian Road Authority, Evis Berberi, Minister Balluku saw first-hand the progress of works on this overpass.

Balluku said that “more than 20% of the volume has been completed right now with work running at a high pace on the remaining part. This is the shortest route to access the Tirana centre. The existing road is part of the reformation of the construction site and once the works are completed the road will be delivered up to the standards.”

“After the completion of this road, there will be an extraordinary urban development here, so the category A roads that we build around Tirana include urban elements, such as greenery, lighting, overpasses or underpasses, or green areas, just such the part of “Shqiponja” which will have a flower bed,” said Balluku.
We, Balluku continued, have designed the development plan for Tirana and Paskuqan and within a 5-year period, these will be urban areas with schools, apartment buildings, houses, hospitals and everything else.

“This is a road that naturally follows the trace of the Tirana river. Until 3-4 years ago this river burst the banks and inundated all the houses of Paskuqani and Kamza. Today the situation is under control, we have laid culvert pipes on both sides of the track, assuring the residents that they will not grapple with flooding anymore,” said Balluku.

As to the traffic in Tirana, Balluku said that these important works will tackle the traffic problem. In 2020, the situation to enter Tirana was really critical, people had to wait 1 or 2 hours to enter Tirana, through the “Shqiponja” roundabout. While today it takes 5 minutes to access Tirana, but it should be taken into account that there is a priority. We have closed the first part of the Ring Road, all the important lots from TEG to Farka from TEG to Palace with Arrows and then the most difficult part of the New Ring Road, which turned into a political battle.”

“Today Tirana enjoys half of this project, the time has come to have the other half as well, such as these 7 lots, where work is running unabated, despite the problems with expropriations and everything else,” said Balluku.

“After two years, once this entire infrastructural ring is completed, Tirana will see less and less traffic,” said Balluku.
