TIRANA, Dec 29 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku held a meeting on Thursday with representatives of power producers, businesses connected to the medium voltage and those in the free market.

“Energy has been the most challenging sector for the Albanian government, just as it has been for all European governments during 2022, also due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The truth of the matter is that an energy crunch started to unfold in September 2021,” Balluku said at the meeting.

“The important thing is that the Albanian government, thanks to all the steps followed and the measures taken, has succeeded in mitigating the problem and above all in shielding our citizens 100% from exposure to soaring import prices,” said Balluku.

She said that, “unfortunately, it was compounded by a severe drought this year that abated only at the end of November, so the whole complex of problems has posed an unprecedented challenge, which we have successfully overcome.

Balluku, among other things, highly appreciated the cooperation with business representatives.
“We have tried to give you the right support in a year like no other, in a year of crisis, but on the other hand, we had your cooperation and understanding,” said Balluku.
