At a press conference, Balluku said that despite declaring inability to continue working, controllers are still staying in their working posts in order to prevent the legal effect of job abandonment.

Staying in the building, the minister said, does not mean you are doing the job.

“Those who feel responsibility towards the citizens of the Republic of Albania should immediately return to work, according to the arrangement that will be made with their superiors. The air navigation tower of the Republic of Albania is an object of high security and after the actions performed by the controllers not to exercise their duty and not to allow any flight, we have the right to lose confidence in them and once you do this action, you can also perform much more dangerous actions. From this moment the building is controlled by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania. The State Police have the duty to free the building from those controllers who have abandoned the job. “I hope they will return to work and this story will come to an end for good,” the minister said.

All Albanians are witnesses to the job abandonment by the controllers, said Balluku, reminding them that no one will come to their aid when they face the legal action.

“I heard your lawyer say: take a credit to meet their demands. You get these salaries because of a credit that Albcontrol received from Eurocontrol with the the first installment paid today. If you suggest us to take another loan; “No, we cannot take it,” said the minister.

Balluku said that this strike was staged today because they demand over USD 4 thousand in times of pandemic, adding “they hold the Republic of Albania hostage, putting their own interest first.”

According to minster Balluku, a part of them has been captured by politics.

48 Albcontrol air traffic controllers almost simultaneously declared their inability to work, signing a document that they are stressed out due to difficult financial situation after their salary was slashed from USD 4400 to USD 2490 because of pandemic-induced restrictions.
