TIRANA, June 12 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, said on Wednesday that, “the rapid development of Civil Aviation in our country has brought to the fore the need for increasing human resource capacities. Therefore, we will open the Air Academy with a focus on increasing human capacities for the entire Civil Aviation industry.”

In her address to the Assembly, with regard to the draft law related to civil aviation, Balluku said that, “the national strategy launched in 2019 is under implementation and all the targets have been achieved.”
Bulluku dived into the indicators of this sector.

“Air traffic in Albania has shown a progressive increase, the number of flights is expected to increase by 10% during 2024, compared to 2023 and 55% compared to 2019, which is the last normal year prior to the pandemic. Albania in 2023 ranked among the first countries in Europe for traffic recovery, with a 31% increase. The forecast for 2024 shows a 32% increase in terminal flights compared to 2023.”
She also brought to attention several important projects that include the airport of Vlora, as well as that of Gjirokastra. She added that the Vlora airport will be the largest in the Western Balkan region.
“We are working apace to start operations in the spring of 2025, at another international airport in the south of the country, at Vlora Airport. In December 2024, we complete all civil works and open the licensing process of Vlora airport, which will be the largest in the Western Balkans, taking Albania one step towards long-haul flights,” said Balluku.
“We will soon kick off the procedures for the international competition and the construction of the Gjirokastra airport, making our country with 4 international airports from the south to the north of the country. While new investments are set to be made in the maintenance of aircraft and hangars”, said Balluku.
