TIRANA, March 8 /ATA/ Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, said on Wednesday regarding the request of business associations to increase the capacities of auto producers of energy that, “this is not up to the government, as their request means to seek subsidies from Albanian taxpayers through the state budget. ”

Balluku stressed that, “auto-production capacities are based on research work and the best practices of the European market”.

“Through auto-production we mean a company that decides to produce energy on its terrace through solar panels. In Albania, this production is not allowed to be more than 500 KWh. Albania, Italy and Greece have the highest limit. In Kosovo it is 100 KWh, in North Macedonia 20 KWh. “Auto production is the opportunity we give to businesses to produce the energy they need, provided that on days when they do not need it, they throw it in the grid and this is exchanged with the energy we trade,” she said.

Balluku stated that, “the Albanian government will continue to implement a law for which we have worked with experts. They cannot ask the government to subsidize them with the taxpayers’ money and compensate them for their energy. If this happens, then we are shareholders in every flour mill, bakery, soft drink factory.”
