TIRANA, May 17 /ATA/ Minister of Interior, Taulant Balla, was received by his Spanish counterpart, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, in Madrid, where he signed a memorandum of understanding on the deepening of operational cooperation in the fight against narcotics trafficking and the establishment of a new joint investigative group specialized in the fight against drug trafficking.

“We have elevated to another level the cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Spain and through it with the Spanish National Police, in the fight against organized crime, the fight against drug trafficking, illegal migration and also in establishing joint working groups between our two police forces to identify persons involved in criminal activities in our two countries, be them Albanians who live or are involved in criminal activities in Spain”, said Balla.

Likewise, the minister added, “also for Spanish citizens, who can carry out criminal activities in Albania and also on a wider level, given that Spain has a strong connection with Latin American countries to use the communication that the Spanish side has with these countries in order to identify Albanian citizens involved in criminal activities in these countries and that are mainly connected to the international corridors of narcotics trafficking.”
“As you followed, there was a lengthy meeting at the General Directorate of the National Police, going into concrete details, even concrete names, so that we have the opportunity to ratchet up the joint fight against organized crime,” he said.

“You know, in Europe there is already a European coalition in the fight against organized crime, where Spain plays an important role. This agreement also serves precisely to intensify joint work in terms of operations and comprehensive investigations against criminal groups that exercise their activity not only in Spain, but throughout Europe.”
“We also talked about illegal migration, it is one of the major challenges facing Europe and also about other bilateral cooperation issues,” the minister said after the meeting.
Also, the agreement foresees cooperation in the fight against trafficking of human beings, in the sector of cybercrime, anti-terrorism, etc.
