TIRANA, July 10 /ATA/ Within a year, the State Police have dismantled 61 criminal groups and organized 129 international operations with partner agencies. The figures were cited by Minister of Interior Taulant Balla, at the National Council of European Integration (KKIE) on the progress of reforms within the Berlin Process.
Balla, in his speech, presented some of the annual results of the Police work, which also coincide with his period of taking office.

“One year from the day I took office, the Police have undertaken 1,251 national operations, not including 129 operations with international partners, 13 are mega-operations that have brought to justice 7,934 citizens. 61 criminal groups were dismantled. Joint operations have been carried out with foreign agencies, such as the Italian police, British agencies, the DEA or other agencies in the USA, the German Police as well as with Spain, France. An operation under the direction of SPAK, against the trafficking of narcotics, has just been finalized”, the minister said at the Council meeting.

Balla said that there are 16 joint teams with EUROPOL for joint proceedings against criminal groups in areas such as drug trafficking, illegal border crossing, forgery, money laundering, etc. He appreciated the excellent cooperation of the State Police with the SPAK and Prosecutor General in the fight against crime.
“There are countless operations, I also want to underline the strengthening and cooperation and the increased trust of partner agencies in State Police. I am talking about Interpol, which held the European conference in Tirana in June. There is a decrease in the number of murders in the country, the lowest in these 33 years. I avail myself of the opportunity to express all the commitment to intensify our efforts, as an important indicator of the work of SP and the increase of security indicators in the country. This is also related to the image of Albania, and we share it at this table, I believe that one of the reasons that foreigners choose to come to Albania is public safety. The latest polls, supported by UNDP, for public trust rank the State Police at the top of the institutions trusted by citizens with a significant increase compared to previous years,” Minister of Interior said.
