TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ Minister of Interior, Taulant Balla, participated in the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit in New York.

In his speech, Balla said that, “today we gather with a common commitment to face two critical challenges of our time: preventing conflicts and maintaining peace. Conflict and violence, whether fueled by political, social or economic factors, cause suffering and hinder progress towards a peaceful world. They divide societies, displace families and causes hopes to dim.”
“Today, more than ever, we face numerous challenges in the field of security and public order, organized crime, drug trafficking, terrorism and cybercrime, which are global threats, without borders and require a common and coordinated response,” Balla underlined.
“All of us at this Summit know that synthetic drugs are the number one killer of Americans between the ages of 18 and 45. The types of synthetic drugs affecting countries around the globe can vary. In some countries it can be methamphetamine or ketamine, in other countries tramadol, captagon, fentanyl,” said Balla.
He stated that, “being responsible for the health and life of our citizens, we must take strong actions against the production, trafficking, use, addiction and deaths from overdoses of synthetic drugs.”
“The police are an essential public service working in the public interest, strengthening public trust and confidence, and taking pride in providing an excellent service to the public. To build public trust, police forces and services must embrace high standards of honesty, integrity and ethical behavior in performing their police functions. The public deserves to have full confidence in the police officers, who are in charge of enforcing the law and protecting the citizens”, stressed Balla.
