TIRANA, October 5/ATA/ Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu stated today in the Assembly that 36% of the beneficiaries of the baby bonus so far, over 67 thousand families are from parents who live abroad.

During her speech in the Assembly where there were being discussed some additions and changes to the law “On social assistance in the Republic of Albania”, Koçiu said that, “Our proposal is to limit the benefit of the bonus only to families resident in Albania; such a reform will enable us to focus the support on the families that live and contribute in Albania”.

Our aim, she continued, is to strengthen and improve this scheme.

“Therefore, based on an analysis carried out on the profitability of the support program for families with newborn children and the assessments carried out by the working groups and experts of the Ministry and the State Social Service, it is concluded that children born to Albanian parents abroad in the vast majority of cases benefit from similar payments according to the legislation in the countries where they work and live, thus benefiting from double payments or refunds”, said Koçiu.

Describing the baby bonus as one of the most successful policies of this government, Koçiu said that, “The purpose of the baby bonus distribution policy is to support families who live and contribute to the Republic of Albania, giving them a financial reward to cover the costs associated with bringing up children.”/k.s/p.s./

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today on social media the case of little Anauri, born loss than 7 months old, who has already passed the risk for his life and today enjoys full health together with his mother Nevada. It was thanks to the exemplary care of Dr. Sosiana Baja and the Emergency and Intensive Therapy staff at the “Koço Gliozheni” Maternity Hospital.

Nevada Duraj, the child’s mother, said that she had little hope when she delivered the baby, less than 7 months old, no hope of living and a weight of 800 grams.

While Dr. Sosiana Baja explained that, “When the mother came to the maternity ward, she was evaluated by the team of doctors and it was seen that she was a mother who had hypertension which led to the termination of the birth. In some way, the life of the mother and the baby was also endangered, but fortunately everything went well”.

“The baby has been put on mechanical ventilation for a long time, approximately 45 days, and has required constant assistance from us. Currently, as we speak, the baby is 3 months old and enjoys full health, it weighs 1870 grams and today he will return home together with his mother in good health”, said Dr. Baja. /m.m/p.s./
