TIRANA, Jan 2 /ATA/ – Albanian government will continue supporting the baby bonus programme in 2024.

A fund of 2.2 billion lek or 0.1% of Albania’s GDP is earmarked for the baby bonus provided to families for their newborn babies under the government’s Social Protection Programme, encouraging Albanian parents to have more children through a sharp hike in baby bonuses.

The baby bonus programme entered into force in January 1, 2019. Around 200 000 families have benefited under the programme since its launch five years ago.

According to the changes to the social assistance law adopted in October 2023, the baby bonus will be granted to the families that live and contribute to Albania only.

The goal of the national baby bonus programme is to support families that work and contribute to the Republic of Albania by granting them a financial reward to cover the cost to give birth and raise children.

Under the baby bonus policy, parents receive 40,000 lek for the first child, double to 80,000 lek for the second child and treble to 120,000 lek for the third or more children.

TIRANA, Sept 18 /ATA/ – The families living abroad will no longer be entitled to benefiting a baby bonus for their newborns under baby bonus law approved several years ago as part of the Albanian government’s social reform encouraging Albanian parents to have more children through a sharp hike in baby bonuses.

Parliamentary Committee on Labour, Social Issues and Health endorsed Monday the amendments to the law on social assistance in the Republic of Albania, with baby bonus on focus of the proposed changes.

According to the proposal by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the baby bonus will be no longer provided to the families living outside the territory of Albania.

The Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection Denada Seferi said that the measure was proposed as part of the Albanian government objectives to develop an universal social policy and a new social program called the baby bonus for every newborn and their families, regardless of social and economic status, as part of incentives in a bid to increase birth rate in the country.

Under the baby bonus policy, parents receive 40,000 lek for the first child, double to 80,000 lek for the second child and treble to 120,000 lek for the third or more children. The baby bonus helps the family financially, as well as to reduce the number of unregistered children, a problem mainly with the Roma minority.
