In her remarks to parliament, Sula said that today’s report sums up the work done by the Authority for Information on Former State Security Documents during 2020 and the goals for the future.

“Five years since the establishment of the Authority, it is worth emphasizing the role of the institution in confronting the Albanian society with the communist past; as well as in justice reform, in vetting of the diplomatic corps and the State Police; in declassifying secret files and uncovering the controversial events of the communist regime; in the publication of studies on documents, events and personalities of our national history, at home and abroad, in Albanian and English; for online presence, transparency and active communication with the public of all age groups and affiliations, as well as national and international media; for honouring historical figures and promoting inspiring examples among ordinary people; for restoring the dignity of names stigmatized by the communist system; for the contribution to converting the notorious prisons and labour camps in remembrance sites,” she said.

Sula added that “2020 is the year of legal amendments adopted by parliament, which guarantee the ongoing verification of candidates and figures in high state institutions, vetting bodies in the judiciary and police, as one of the links of justice system. ”
