TIRANA, Sept 13 /ATA/ – A group of Austrian tourists visited Albania’s National Theatre of Opera and Ballet (TKOB) in Tirana on Saturday, underlining the growing appeal of the country’s cultural heritage among foreign visitors.

The travellers, who made the trip specifically to explore Tirana’s elite arts scene, were welcomed by TKOB representatives and taken on a guided tour through the opera house.

They learned about the theatre’s 72-year history, its evolution and productions, backstage operations and the enduring influence the institution has had on Albanian performing arts.

According to TKOB, the tour ended with a short performance from “Die schöne Müllerin” by Austrian composer Franz Schubert, a gesture linking Albanian and Austrian cultural traditions.

Cultural tourism has become an increasingly important sector for Albania, with officials noting steady growth in visitor numbers seeking experiences beyond the country’s beaches and mountain landscapes.

Authorities view this form of tourism as a strategic pillar that reinforces national identity, encourages cross-border partnerships and secures Albania a stronger place on Europe’s cultural map.

Tourism experts say Albania’s opera house, galleries and heritage sites are increasingly drawing visitors year-round, helping to diversify the country’s economy and promote sustainable tourism.
