TIRANA, April 10 /ATA/ Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj received today President of the European Athletics Federation Dobromir Karamarinov and talked about investments in athletics and other disciplines.

Veliaj said that sport unites people, regardless of what they do or where they come from.

“Sport unites people! Due to the war in Ukraine, part of the Ukrainian athletics team has taken refuge in Albania. What we did with the Jews, with our brothers from Kosovo, what we did with the Afghans, what we did with the Iranians, we are now doing with the citizens of Ukraine, said Veliaj.

Speaking about investments in Tirana, he spoke about plans to invest in an indoor athletics stadium and mentioned some other dignified investments in sports.

During the next term, we want to make a closed athletics stadium, just as we want to renovate the “Selman Stërmasi” stadium and the “Asllan Rusi” sports palace – so these are three major projects in sports. Next month, we will take over the pools of Tirana; to give the Swimming Federation what it deserves, as its 20-year contract has expired there. So, things are coming where they should be while we give to the federations, sports, talents the facilities where to develop their activity “, he concluded.

On his part, President of the European Athletics Federation Karamarinov said that he is happy that Tirana is paying special attention to athletics.

“You are ready to make a new athletic track and I think we will find the best solution for athletics, the best solution for all young people in Tirana to have the opportunity to practice sport. This will also give Tirana the opportunity to host another competition,” said Karamarinov./p.s./

TIRANA, March 3/ATA/ Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj inspected the works for building of the Olympic track of athletics, which will be 400 meters long and will serve professionals of athletics at the national level.

The mayor said the new track will be the most special in the Balkans.

“Before we went to the Olympic Games, we promised to Luiza Gega that we will have the track ready very soon, as a reward for her and all the promising young Albanian athletes, who work hard. It is in the dignity of the work that we do to keep our word and the word I have given is: Together with the Agency of Parks and Recreation, we will prepare the most unique track, in the Balkans, but also in Europe “, he affirmed.

Veliaj underlined the fact that the municipality of Tirana has made the biggest revolution in gyms and fields.

“Every investment we have made in sports has paid off. We gave a premium for Tirana which became a football champion. We are the first in volleyball and basketball. We won the Albanian Cup in men’s basketball. Therefore, we want to continue this success story. We are the number one investors, we have made the biggest revolution in gyms and in the fields “, stressed Veliaj.

The Olympic Track will be an added asset to the city and community. The necessary conditions and infrastructure for suitable training conditions are being created, which gives an opportunity to more Albanian athletics. The Olympic Running Track will be an area totally dedicated to athletics which will ‘blend’ with nature./p.s./
