TIRANA, May 9 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Thursday that Greece’s Albanian community today represents a story of pride, good citizenship and success.

The government head shared a picture showing his first meeting with Albanian migrants in Athens in his capacity as the then opposition leader back in 2006.

“A lot of things have changed over 18 years, yet the two things that have changed for sure is the fact that I have no longer a single black hair and, after ‘walking through the sea’ like the valiant travellers depicted on the ancient stories, Albanians in Greece are a story of pride, citizenship and success.”

PM Rama is scheduled to hold a meeting with Albanian compatriots in Greece on May 12.

Athens marks the first stop on Rama’s “Proud of Albania” tour, which aims to connect with Albanian communities abroad.

TIRANA, May 8 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated Wednesday that his planned upcoming visit to Athens on May 12 is unrelated to Greece’s internal matters, the European Parliament elections in Greece, or any specific narratives that may pique the interest of Greek politicians but are not on Albania’s government agenda.

In a statement via the social media, PM Rama announced that “this visit is part of a long-planned series of visits to several European countries, including Athens, to engage with Albanians living abroad and share Albania’s pride in them and the Vision Albania 2030.”

“This is all about my visit to the friendly neighbor Greece,” Rama stated.

Meanwhile, the government head expressed his bewilderment at the responses from Greek opposition factions while acknowledging the position articulated by Prime Minister Mitsotakis.

“It is quite surprising to hear the statements made by the Greek opposition, while I can fully comprehend the perspective conveyed by the Greek Prime Minister,” Rama said.

According to him, “the stark contrast in viewpoints on the same issue sheds light on why some are in opposition while others are entrusted with governing by the people.”

“Nonetheless, as Prime Minister Mitsotakis rightly pointed out, Greece remains a democratic country where leaders from other democratic nations can visit, meet with their compatriots and praise them for their hard work and the valuable contributions they make not only to the country they reside in but also to their motherland,” Rama stated.

PM Edi Rama is scheduled to hold a meeting with Albanian compatriots in Greece on May 12.

Athens marks the initial stop on Rama’s “Proud of Albania” tour, which aims to connect with Albanian communities abroad.
