TIRANA, Nov 7 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, attended the 6th Transatlantic Energy Cooperation Partnership (P-TEC) meeting, held in Athens.

In a media statement, Balluku said, “The 6th meeting of the Transatlantic Energy Cooperation Partnership marks the beginning of closer collaboration between the United States Department of Energy, the European Union, and particularly the countries of Central and Southern Europe.”

According to her, today Secretary of Energy Chris Wright delivered an inspiring speech focused on energy security, transatlantic cooperation, and, above all, the coordination among states to minimize the impact of Russian gas in Europe.
“During P-TEC 6, official Athens signed an important agreement to open European markets to U.S. liquefied gas, turning the region into a strategically vital point for geopolitics. In his speech, Secretary Wright emphasized that new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence applied to the energy sector, will soon deliver remarkable results and sustainable solutions for Europe’s energy industry. In his address, Prime Minister Mitsotakis, who welcomed P-TEC 6, announced that for the first time in 2024, Greece became a net exporter,” Balluku stated.
“During the meeting, I had the opportunity to brief our European colleagues and strategic allies, during the Ministerial session, on Albania’s goal to shift from an energy-importing country to a net exporter by 2030,” Balluku said. “I also presented our major interconnection plans, including Energy Corridor VIII and the East-West corridor running across Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania, and Italy.”

She added that the construction of the subsea interconnection line from Albania to Italy was widely recognized by participants as a vital investment for the energy security of Southeastern Europe.

“The active engagement of the U.S. Department of Energy in Europe’s energy sector is promising, ensuring resilience and, above all, energy independence,” Balluku stated. She also highlighted the presence of U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum at P-TEC 6 in Athens, noting, “it was a pleasure meeting him, and his attendance clearly underscores the vital role energy plays in global security.”
