Asked at the joint press conference with President of the European Council about the proposal of the new mechanism that keeps the countries of the Western Balkans close to the EU, Rama said that, “This is a very important question and it is more important to give the full answer. On the contrary, for some time now I have been discussing this with President of the European Council since he himself mentioned this fact in internal discussions, with the President of France, or with the former Chancellor and with the new Chancellor and so on”.

“And, of course, the countries in this community have their obligations. If EU countries have a certain number of obligations as a full EU member, we have other obligations. This is because we are not yet full members. And the idea of ​​an associate member of the EU is an idea which is getting more support. Of course, we do not know how and when it will materialize, but I have followed and fully support the vision of the President of France for this new community that is even more on the present-day agenda, as a result of what is happening in Ukraine” , stressed Rama

“So, it’s a new European political community, where not only the EU members, but also other countries are involved. And so, of course, as far as we are concerned we are much closer to the EU. And if the day comes for us to be an associate member of the EU, that puts an end to all speculation, puts an end to all conspiracy theories, puts an end to all paranoia, that the EU is keeping us far away that it does not want to introduce us and so on.
