TIRANA, May 29 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama acknowledged Wednesday that Albania’s public administration has yet to address certain shortcomings and deficiencies, yet it s a very valuable national asset.

Addressing an event on public administration motivation, the government head underlined that “there is a perception that the public administration comprises a group of corrupt individuals and thieves who embezzle money and this is such a perception consolidated systematically over the years, also illustrated by certain examples of wrongdoers within the public administration.”

PM Rama publicly praised public administration for the performance and hard work in advancing the EU accession negotiations during the screening process.

“From the very onset, I have experienced incredible pride witnessing how a part of this public administration – I am talking about hundreds of public administration employees, who represented Albania at the talks and the negotiations preparation during the screening process. I would convincingly state that our public administration is an incredible national asset,” PM Rama stated.

TIRANA, June 1/ATA/ Albania ranks first in the region in terms of social re-use of assets confiscated from criminal activities.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the government highlighted this achievement during a workshop on confiscation and reuse of criminal assets, organized by the Global Initiative against Transnational Crime, which was attended by representatives of SPAK, NGOs and the head of the Agency for Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets Adrian Koni.

Albania is the first in implementation of all analyzed categories, such as “Confiscation of assets”, “Extended confiscation of assets”, “State re-use of confiscated assets” and “Social re-use of confiscated assets”.

The figures, data and analysis of the material were made by Global Initiative against Transnational Crime and the report was drafted in March 2022.

From the data published in the report, it stands out the fact that the Agency for Administration of Sequestrated and Confiscated Assets has performed a quality work towards implementation of the law, in order to socially re-use the assets confiscated from crime.

This workshop was organized in the framework of the project “Strengthening the fight against transnational organized crime in Southeast Europe, through improved regional cooperation in the capture, confiscation, management and re-use of criminal assets.”

The Agency for Administration of Sequestered and Confiscated Assets (AAPSK) is a subordinate institution of the Ministry of Interior. /m.m/r.e/p.s./
