The workshop, titled “Reframing the Frame”, will take place at the “Ibrahim Madhi” hall of the university and is aimed at young filmmakers, composers and musicians seeking to deepen their knowledge and broaden their professional skills.

Organisers said musical composition plays a central role in the film industry, shaping emotion, atmosphere, rhythm and narrative impact.

Led by an internationally recognised composer with extensive experience collaborating with major European film institutions and festivals, the workshop will offer participants practical training in film scoring and live musical accompaniment. Attendees will explore the relationship between image and sound while reconnecting with an important cinematic tradition.

The initiative is also linked to the revival of film concerts-live musical performances accompanying film screenings-a practice rooted in the silent film era and now reimagined through archival and experimental cinema.

The workshop is supported by the British Council WB-UK Creative Skills Development Fund, which promotes partnerships between the Western Balkans and the United Kingdom.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday by QKK Chairman Jonid Jorgji and University Rector Erald Bakalli, includes practical student involvement in areas such as acting, directing, set design, and other film disciplines during the shooting and production of projects funded by the Albanian film body.

“The deal marks a concrete first step in empowering young talent, giving them the opportunity to graduate with a professional portfolio and projects suitable for launching their careers,” QKK said, adding that further agreements with the university are planned for programs aligned with the industry’s real needs.

An information session was also held for students on QKK’s education program, scholarships, professional opportunities, and the UK Chevening Scholarship program.

Jorgji emphasized the need to develop Albania’s film industry beyond a niche sector and proposed viewing cinematography not only as an art form but also as an economic activity.

QKK and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports aim not only to finance productions but also to build a film industry ecosystem linking cinema to the creative economy, tourism, and the country’s international image.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Culture Elva Elva Margariti, inspected the ongoing reconstruction work and toured the site where work is underway for some time now to restore the concerts hall and make it available to students, university staff and artistic community.

“The whole building is actually a second category monument of culture, which means that its architectural values and the façade elements must be preserved. However, we are treating it as a first category monument, meaning that we have preserved most of its original elements, around 90% of the décor elements. We will also recover several concert hall spaces that were unused previously. The new concert hall is designed to have a capacity of 455 seats, one of the halls to be restored back to the artistic and university community,” the Culture Minister said.

The concerts hall at the University of Arts has been equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a revolving auditorium and stage and orchestra pit.

The new hall has been completed with all the previously missing elements and once project is complete it will meet the highest standards for the performers and art lovers.

The donation comprises more than 1 400 music books by more than 50 composers and represents the entire Henle Urtext catalogue.

The Minister of Education and Sports Evis Kushi, together with the Minister of Culture Elva Margariti, received Günter Henle foundation representatives for the handing over ceremony in Tirana on Friday.

“I very much appreciate this precious contribution by Günter Henle foundation as it play a very important role for development of art and education of young talented artists in our country,” Education Minister said in her remarks at the ceremony..

On his part, the Chairman of the Board of Günter Henle, Felix Henle said that the Foundation is very pleased to support Tirana’s University of Arts.

“Our support of the outstanding work of the University of Arts in Tirana is something that is very close to the heart of our foundation. We are grateful that G. Henle Publishers was able to support this university on the occasion of its 60th anniversary. Without doubt, the excellent training and the wonderful atmosphere at the University of Arts would have also appealed a great deal to my grandfather, Günter Henle, the founder of the Urtext publishing house and the foundation. We thank our ambassador, Prof. Rudens Turku, who has established contact with the Ministry and the University,” Felix Henle said.
