TIRANA, April 9 /ATA/ – French EU Minister Benjamin Haddad emphasized the special significance of the “Vila 31 x Art Explora” project, which aims to transform a communist-era house into a center of art and culture in the Albanian capital.

The centre will welcome its first residents from France, Tunisia, Lebanon, Malta, Italy, and Albania -young talents who will reside and create there for several months.

“This project transcends cultural dimensions and is an emblematic sign of Albania’s transformation. That’s why I am pleased to be here,” said Haddad, highlighting the Franco-Albanian collaboration for the transformation of Vila 31 in Tirana.

“This infamous place has now been transformed to open up a new chapter in Albania’s history. It now looks toward the future and is dedicated to artistic creation and dialog between cultures. Thus, it becomes a place that was once deprived of freedoms and now transforms into a space of creativity, a realm of thought where risks are taken to envision the world, as only artists can do,” Haddad said.

According to him, “Vila 31 x Art Explora” is a symbol of Albania’s rooting in the values of our continent.

“In a tumultuous time for Europe and the world, it is important to remember that the friendship between our two countries is rooted in a shared history and common geography, with the Mediterranean connecting us, as well as shared values. This allows us to envision a common European future,” he said.

Haddad – went on saying – “Vila 31 is more than just a workplace for artists. It embodies an idea for art and the sharing of values, marking Tirana on the major platforms of contemporary art.”

“This place embodies Albania’s path toward European membership, which France fully supports, demonstrating the integration that your country is pursuing. Villa 31 is part of the dynamic collaboration between our two countries,” Haddad said.
