TIRANA, July 12 /ATA/ The Council for Regulation, Mandates and Immunity decided on Wednesday’s meeting to forward the report to the Assembly for voting on Monday’s session, recommending the approval of the authorization requested by SPAK for the arrest of MP Arben Ahmetaj.

In a media briefing from the seat of the Presidency of the Assembly, after the meeting, the Socialist Party MP, Arben Pëllumbi, stated that the Socialist Party will put together a report that will be forwarded to the Parliament Speaker, regarding the request of the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK), which seeks the arrest of the former deputy prime minister, Arben Ahmetaj.

“We must submit it to the Parliament Speaker, who will then refer it to the plenary session. I believe the Parliament Speaker will decide that on Monday, at 17:00hrs, we will hold a special session to discuss this point. We must understand that the Council for Mandates and Regulation is neither a court nor has the authority to judge. We check whether the procedure for granting this right requested by the prosecution office has been followed or not and whether or not there are facts that prove political meddling or other problems, for which the Constitution gives him protection, ” Pëllumbi said.

While the chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, said that “the Council unanimously decides to recommend in plenary session approval of the authorization for the arrest and searching in the apartment of MP Arben Ahmetaj”.

The Special Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, SPAK, submitted on July 10 to the Parliament of Albania the request for the arrest of the former Minister of Finance, Arben Ahmetaj.
