TIRANA, April 5 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu visited Zall Herr today to attend the military display marking the 16th anniversary of Albania’s NATO membership.

In his speech, the PM emphasized the importance of developing military assets to further improve the financial situation of the Armed Forces.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the Ministry of Defense should serve as a center for developing these assets, as they have the potential to boost revenue.

“We must also make a significant move regarding the military’s assets. For many years, the Albanian army has lost numerous properties in a disorganized, chaotic, and often incomprehensible way. However, today the army holds many unused, dormant assets that remain untouched simply due to inertia. This is a situation that needs to be addressed,” said Rama.

“The Ministry of Defense must also work towards developing the properties that, although not meant for military purposes, remain assets of the Armed Forces,” said Rama.

Rama stated that development should be achieved by forming partnerships, rather than simply giving away properties for nothing. By engaging in these partnerships, the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces can also generate revenue.

“The army today needs substantial funding, and every country is increasing their budgets, but at the same time, this territory, sector, and direction have the potential to generate significant income for the military,” he emphasized.

“We must be prudent in how we invest the taxes of the Albanian people, building a productive and export-driven foundation, as well as a resource management framework, so that we can have an army that truly stands as a national point of reference. It should be an asset admired by all, and a place where anyone can envision a future and feel motivated to join the Armed Forces, whether in uniform or through the technological expertise and other skills gained from civilian life,” emphasized Rama. /j.p/sm/
