TIRANA, Oct 6 /ATA/ – Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha accused the government on Tuesday of involvement in an alleged arms-trafficking scheme and said his main opposition party would submit what he described as evidence to Albania’s Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) and NATO.

Speaking to reporters at the DP headquarters, Berisha linked the alleged scheme to what he described as ties between former State Intelligence Service chief Vlora Hyseni and Roni Yeffet, an Israeli businessman, calling the claims a serious matter for Albania and the NATO alliance.

Berisha also referred to Hyseni’s testimony before parliament’s Security Committee concerning her relationship with businessman Ergys Agasi and Yeffet. He alleged that her statements pointed to “dual control” over the intelligence service by Agasi and Yeffet.

“This is one of the most mafia-like schemes,” Berisha said, arguing that such activity by a NATO member state in the defence sector would be a serious act against both the country and the alliance.

He said DP would submit its evidence to SPAK and NATO institutions and inform the defence ministries of NATO member states.
