TIRANA, Jan 25 /ATA/ The Archbishop of Albania, Anastasios Yanulatos, passed away on Saturday, January 25, at the age of 95, after a long period of hospitalization and a deteriorating health condition.

Janullatos passed away in Athens at “Evangelismos” Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for serious health complications.

The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church has announced that Archbishop Anastasios Yanulatos’ body will lie in state at the Athens Cathedral for public viewing until Monday morning, January 27. A Divine Liturgy in his honor will take place at the cathedral on Sunday.

The Archbishop’s body will be transported by land to Albania on Tuesday, where a tribute ceremony will be held at the “Resurrection of Christ” Cathedral in Tirana.

Yanulatos suffered a gastric hemorrhage, and after several days of treatment at a private hospital in Tirana, his condition deteriorated, necessitating his transfer to Athens on January 3 by an Air Force plane.

Despite the medical efforts and intensive care he received, his condition worsened daily due to the insufficient functioning of several organs.
