Vata/ – The Minister of Culture Elva Margariti said Saturday that ancient ruins of wall were unearthed most recently during the excavation and foundation work on construction of the Eftali Koçi nine-year school in the coastal city of Durres.

“The excavations uncovered the ruins of a wall that features several construction phases, starting from the Archaic period, a fortification tower of the IV-III century BC, but also artefacts, such as ceramic vessels, figurines, bricks, tiles, dating back from V-III century BC,” Margariti said via a post on the social media.

Culture Minister said that the school building’s foundations were relocated after the archaeogical discovery, whereas a conservation project is underway to continue the archaeological excavations.

“This discovery, one of the most important in recent years, sheds light on the division of the ancient city, configuring the urban space and the funerary space with the necropolis. These data are sporadic to date,” Margariti added.
