TIRANA, June 16/ATA/ The Parliament approved today with 72 votes in favor and 1 against the draft law “On energy performance of buildings”.

Thus, Albania becomes the first country in the region to fully implement the latest European Union directive in this field.

This legal initiative aims to radically transform the way buildings are constructed and renovated in Albania, with the objective that by 2050, all public and private buildings will be converted into buildings with minimal energy consumption.

The law is not a formal approximation with the EU, but a concrete and structured policy, which places citizens, the environment and energy saving at the center.

Through this law, building renovation booklets will come into force that help owners make efficient investments with benefits in terms of energy.

Every building in Albania will have its own booklet. At the center of this initiative are families in economic difficulties who have not had the opportunity to renovate their old apartments, helping them through incentives so that they do not fall behind in the need for a transformation and energy saving.

It is also aimed to install solar panels in the new buildings and those that will undergo renovation.

The goal is that all new buildings will be equipped with intelligent charging points that construction companies must implement.

Albania has had a successful energy balance, where from the level of 50% of losses in the network in 2013 it has reached 18% and aims for EU standards for this indicator.

From February 1 of the current year, the price of electricity for family consumers was reduced by 10.5%, from which 95% of Albanian families – about 1,070,000 subscribers – benefited. /j.p/p.s./
