Speaking to reporters outside SPAK’s offices, Berisha accused Special Prosecutor Altin Dumani of shielding drug cartels, electoral crimes, and serious environmental offenses, calling him “de facto the main person responsible for crime in Albania.”

Berisha highlighted recent toxic waste fires in Elbasan and Vlora, describing them as “crimes amnestied by ‘Altin Troplini’,” a reference to Dumani. He criticized SPAK for failing to act against these environmental crimes despite numerous complaints filed by the Democratic Party and local officials.

DP leader emphasized that his main opposition party has submitted dozens of complaints related to environmental offenses but accused SPAK of effectively granting impunity.

The Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has referred Berisha’s case involving the former “Partizani” sports complex to trial. The former Prime Minister faces charges of passive corruption linked to misuse of office during his premiership to favor his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, in an irregular privatization deal. Malltezi is also charged with corruption and money laundering.

Berisha has rejected the charges as politically motivated.

Speaking to reporters after his court-mandated appearance under corruption charges for privatization of the “Partizani” sports complex in Tirana when he served as the country’s Prime Minister, the opposition leader pledged to shut down SPAK, calling it “a mercenary tool of the regime.”

“Edi Rama’s political prosecution structure, the puppet of George Soros, headed by mercenary (Altin) Dumani, is a tool of his regime, which will disgracefully end on May 11, 2025,” Berisha warned.

Berisha also confirmed the DP coalition with the Freedom Party of the former President Ilir Meta.

“Meta wanted open lists, but how can he campaign from prison? He wished to be included on open candidates list, but he was imprisoned. He will be elected as parliament member, whereas Rama will end up where he belongs,” Berisha stated.

Supporters of the opposition leader again gathered outside SPAK headquarters. Under judicial supervision, Berisha must report to SPAK twice a month after his house arrest was downgraded.
