TIRANA, Dec 24 /ATA/ – Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of openly opposing the lifting of parliamentary immunities and the arrest of individuals involved in organized crime, calling it an attempt to block the enforcement of laws and judicial decisions.

In a press statement, Berisha said the government is obstructing the actions of prosecutors and courts, placing primary responsibility on the Prime Minister. Opposition leader added that the only solution to the current situation is citizen action through sustained and peaceful protests.

“The square and the boulevard belong to the citizens. Protests should not be temporary, but continue until the political goal of the opposition – removing the Premier from power – is achieved,” Berisha said.

He emphasized that citizens’ courage, determination, and will are the only requirements to bring about Rama’s removal.

“The proof is in the revolt that has already been shown. But it must be sustained. The boulevard must remain with the citizens. The square must remain with the citizens. Not for one, two, or three days, but as long as necessary to achieve the goal,” he added.

Berisha said the opposition will work to mobilize citizens willing to make sacrifices in a peaceful uprising.

He also referred to what he called the “AKSHI case,” alleging that the agency has been involved in questionable financial practices, and called for a full institutional investigation and transparency regarding the financial benefits of certain private entities.

Berisha criticized the media for insufficient coverage of these issues and urged judicial institutions to act free from political influence, while the opposition continues efforts to mobilize citizens in a broad, peaceful response.

TIRANA, Nov 17 /ATA/ – Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha on Monday announced the start of a series of opposition protests outside the Prime Minister’s office, describing the planned antigovernment rallies as a “parliamentary-civic forum.”

The main opposition party leader stated the demonstrations aim to force the resignation of the Prime Minister “as a step toward forming a caretaker government and holding free elections.”

Berisha accused the government of turning the electoral process into “a complete farce” and said parliament had been “seized” by the ruling majority, blocking debate and rejecting parliamentary inquiry committees and interpellations sought by the opposition.

“This protest is called at a moment when the opposition did everything for a free and fair electoral process, while the government did everything to turn it into an ugly electoral farce,” Berisha said, adding that the start of uninterrupted protests had been delayed by “a complex set of circumstances.”

He said every Albanian who believes in free voting holds “undeniable national and international evidence” that the May 11 vote was an “electoral farce.”

He urged citizens in Tirana and across the country to join the protest, saying it would open a season of continuous and varied demonstrations “until we achieve our goal – giving Albanians the chance to vote as free citizens.”

Asked whether the protest was linked to his summons by SPAK in the January 21 case, Berisha called such claims “a vulgar assertion” and said he had always appeared when summoned by justice authorities.

As for Monday’s protest, approved by police to run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Berisha said he did not plan to extend it beyond that timeframe, describing it as the first step in a longer nationwide protest campaign.
