TIRANA, December 31/ATA/ The Competition Authority reported that the process of collecting data on the prices of basket products for the period October-November-December, including all links in the supply and trading chain, is near completion.

According to the official report, after this phase, there will be carried out a detailed comparative analysis of the price for each product, with the aim of identifying any possible unjustified increase that may be a consequence of non-competitive behavior or illegal coordination between economic operators.

The Competition Authority explained that the analysis will focus on comparing prices between different time periods, assessing the cost structure and profit margins, as well as identifying any practices that may undermine fair competition in the market.

If the statistical and economic analysis reveals unjustified price increases or practices prohibited by applicable legislation, the Competition Authority said that it will take appropriate legal action without hesitation, including the initiation of investigative procedures against the relevant entities.

The Competition Authority emphasized that it remains committed to guaranteeing the fair functioning of the market, protecting competition and consumer interests, by exercising its legal powers with full responsibility. e.xh/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, October 12 /ATA/ Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro stated today that, “There have been 9.7 million foreign visitors from January to September, at the end of the season, reaching almost an equal number of last year, which was also a record year in tourism”.

In her speech at the annual meeting for the analysis of the 2024 summer tourist season, which is held today at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana, Minister Kumbaro said that, “This figure is indicative of a tourism that grows together with our ambitions to consolidate an offer with the highest levels of quality, standards and hospitality”.

Attending the event was Deputy Prime Minister and also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku.

Kumbaro said that, “Albania has succeeded in consolidating a tourist offer that extends throughout the year and throughout the territory. This is also confirmed by the increase in the number of visitors to the protected areas and national parks, cultural sites and agro-tourism enterprises”.

“We have found the way to have tourism extended in time and territory and this is shown by the 4.5 million visitors to the protected areas during 2024 or 1 million visitors to the cultural sites, thanks to the good work that has been done in the promotion of cultural heritage. This is also confirmed by the 270 offers in agro-tourism and the very high demand to be in this market, while thanks to the Agro-tourism strategy, our aim is that the potential of this sector is rendered into 1000 units by 2030”, said Kumbaro. /k.s/p.s./

TIRANA, June 21/ATA/ The head of the Albanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE) Petrit Ahmeti said today that, “The relevant institutions which deal with the transmission of electricity in our region are analyzing the major power cut on June 21, which created a difficulty situation not only in Albania, but in the whole region”.

During presentation to the Assembly committee of the ERE’s annual report for 2023, when asked by opposition MP Luan Baçi about the cause of the power outage, Ahmeti informed that, “Defects in the 400 kilovolt lines are rare, so they need a serious analysis when it happens”.

“We are waiting for the analysis of this phenomenon, which did not happen only in Albania, but also in the neighboring countries. It was a defect that happened first with Montenegro and then with Greece”, he said.

Ahmeti emphasized that currently the institutions dealing with energy transmission in our region are analyzing the event so that to determine the reason why this happened.

He guaranteed that this phenomenon cannot be an internal problem that affects the lines of the country.

“The Albanian electricity grid was restored into operation very quickly as compared with the other Balkan countries and this shows maximum readiness and responsibility”, he said. Ahmeti stated that, “A final and in-depth analysis will come out at a later time and will be made available for information”.

The electricity cut on June 21 this year came from the interconnection line with Greece and caused a chain effect throughout our country. /r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, January 6 /ATA/ Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro stated today that 10.1 million tourists visited Albania last year.

At the conference for the annual work analysis of the ministry, Kumbaro said that, “We counted over 10.1 million visitors from January 1, 2023 to December 31 and I have no doubt that 2023 was the year of tourism; it became headlines”.

“The results came without doubt thanks to a very good cooperation of the private sector and the public sector. And within the public sector, there are the sectors which in one way or another either work directly for tourism such as the Ministry of Tourism and Environment with its own affiliated agencies, but there are also all government agencies at all levels, from the police to transport, from agriculture to infrastructure, that have been oriented towards tourism because that was the political priority of the government in the service and function of the tourism economy”, emphasized minister Kumbaro. /p.s./
