At a press conference, Rama emphasized that “we conducted a survey about the fiscal amnesty and the Albanians said yes.”

“I have also made it clear to the partners, we welcome every remark, but we do not welcome the stand that: ‘Albania cannot implement the fiscal amnesty, because Albanians are a bit strange. We have made a project that is open to further modifications, because it has not gone to parliament. The project includes all the measures drawing on the amnesty laws of other countries to prevent the misuse of this opportunity,” added Rama.

Prime Minister said that “the amnesty is granted when the money is deposited in banks.”

“This applies to anyone who has not been convicted, who has neither worked in the state administration nor has been involved in politics, etc. There are a number of excluded categories that may have amassed their wealth through corruption or crime.”

The Prime Minister added that “we cannot accept that all Albanians and the money coming from abroad are suspicious, just because some of the Albanians are involved in illegal activities.”

“We cannot do this. It applies to savings of undeclared work, not proceeds deriving from criminal activities. Suffice it to see the ordeal of emigrants when carrying amounts of 10,000 euros , history of banks back and forth, money laundering and corruption by prosecutors who hold them to ransom. These are grounds for implementation of the fiscal amnesty,” said Rama.
