In a press briefing, Lamallari shared that “338 convicted individuals will be granted immediate release, while 980 others will have their sentences commuted.”

“The Penal Amnesty has been submitted to the Council of Ministers, and we expect the approval of the act during the upcoming government meeting, followed by its submission to the Parliament. This is a large group of beneficiaries. Based on preliminary figures, including proceedings for 2024, the number of beneficiaries is considerable, with approximately 10,000 citizens set to benefit. Of these, 338 individuals will be granted immediate release, while 980 will have their sentences commuted,” he stated.

Lamallari emphasized that this category includes vulnerable groups, such as women and minors, who will benefit from this humanitarian act.
“This demonstrates that we are a society that should focus on prevention, rehabilitation, and offering a second chance and support to individuals who, at certain points, fall victim to the repressive application of the law. It is essential to shift our approach and mindset. Imprisonment should be considered a measure of last resort,” stated Lamallari.
