TIRANA March 11 /ATA/ The North Atlantic Alliance, NATO, has prioritized ramping up the production of weaponry, due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Sources from NATO office in Brussels in reply to the question about the idea of revitalizing the arms industry in Albania, said that the discussions between the allies continue for “increasing the production of ammunition.”

Ministers also discussed progress in ramping up ammunition production. The NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made clear that there is a “need to shift from the slow pace of peacetime, to the high tempo production demanded by conflict,” in order to refill stocks and continue to support Ukraine. In the past months, NATO has agreed contracts worth $10 billion US dollars. “This helps Ukraine, makes NATO stronger, and provides more highly-skilled jobs in Europe and North America,” Mr Stoltenberg said.
Also, sources from the NATO office in Brussels emphasize that its experts are evaluating the possibility of investing in the naval base of Durrës, Porto Romano.

“Regarding Porto Romano, we welcome offers from allies to host NATO facilities. Our experts look at all offers and then give advice based on the military requirements of the Alliance, ” same sources told the Albanian Telegraphic Agency.

Asked about the recent opening of the NATO air base in Kuçova, the NATO office in Brussels said that it will serve the country.

“The air base of Kuçova will serve Albania and support logistics, air operations, training and exercises of the NATO Alliance,” NATO sources told ATA.
