TIRANA, July 20 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama attended on Wednesday the promotion of the book entitled “The US Ambassadors in Albania” authored by Roland Qafoku.

“I stand here today to respect the author of this book, who truly deserves congratulations and, without question, gratitude for the voluminous work he has done to bring this work to light at an important moment, as the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the United States,” said Rama.

“Such a book would probably be meaningless in any other European country, and I’m sure that no publishing house would be interested in it, but this is not the case in Albania,” said Rama.

“Albania’s history is inextricably linked with this bond. It has been linked since the very beginning when this bond was fostered as a result of the US protecting Albania, which continues so to this day when the US is very present in our daily life, precisely through the ambassadors, who we know all, they have a presence and a role that in any other country would be imperceptible, but in Albania remains invaluable for the sake of the truth,” said Rama.

“Although I don’t like saying this at all, this is the truth. It is an irreplaceable role. And this is not so much about the ambassadors or the US, as it is about our history, our stages of development. It is our need for this relationship now and again, as a relationship that is much deeper than it may seem. It is much more strategic than it can be at first sight, going as far as the absolute guarantee of the integrity of our country, which despite the fact there is a considerable number of provincial haughty people thinking of the navel of the world or a small country can be ruled or governed by a sovereign power that flows from crystal clear rivers, in fact it is a small country. And if today it is an inviolable country in any direction and aspect, this is not the result of any divine decree of inviolability, but it is the result, among other things, of this extremely strategic relationship,” said Rama.

“The US ambassadors are certainly human beings, of course they have their own natures, but first and foremost they represent the US and the decision-making and the communication system of serious countries, of well-organized states as a whole without question of a country like the USA, which does not resemble in any way what the chieftains of Albania can have in the back of their mind. It is a completely a non-personal system and a completely institutional system,” said Rama.
