TIRANA, May 25 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday accused opposition of damaging Albania’s international image through violent protests and anti-government demonstrations.

Speaking at an event in Durres marking the 35th anniversary of the ruling Socialist Party, Rama said opposition supporters had taken to the streets with Molotov cocktails and celebrated when images of burning rubbish bins and flares appeared in international media coverage.

“They took to the streets with Molotov cocktails and rejoiced when images of burning garbage containers or flares fired toward the Prime Minister’s office and government buildings appeared in media outlets around the world,” Rama said.

He accused opposition figures of attempting to portray Albania as isolated internationally.

Rama said European leaders, including representatives from Germany, will gather in Brussels on Tuesday, and added that he would hold a meeting with German Chancellor in the coming days.

“In a few days, I will share detailed information from the meeting we will have with the German Chancellor,” Rama said.
