TIRANA, March 22 /ATA/ – Albania has received a positive assessment in the latest Freedom House report, Freedom in the World 2026, ranking as the highest-rated country in the region in terms of overall freedom.

The report highlights progress in political rights, institutional performance, anti-corruption efforts and judicial reform.

Speaking on his Let’s Talk podcast on Sunday, Prime Minister Edi Rama said the findings place Albania ahead of regional peers, including Montenegro, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia.

“This result puts us at the top of the region, reflecting progress in political rights, the functioning of institutions and the fight against corruption,” Rama said, noting that the ranking comes at a time when democracy faces global challenges.

Rama added that Albania has also made significant advances in cybersecurity, placing among the top 10 countries globally in this field. He said the country has developed an advanced cyber defence system, strengthened digital security institutions and introduced innovative mechanisms to respond to threats.

According to Rama, the improvements follow continued efforts to enhance resilience against cyberattacks and deepen cooperation with international partners, positioning Albania among a small group of high-performing countries in cybersecurity.
