The delegation was accompanied by representatives from Albania’s General Maritime Directorate, in coordination with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.

The visits focused on evaluating security protocols in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and national regulations.

Port administrators, security officers, and other authorized personnel briefed the U.S. team on achievements, challenges, policies, and ongoing processes aimed at strengthening safety standards for port users, ship crews, port infrastructure, cargo, and the surrounding environment.

According to the General Maritime Directorate, the preliminary assessment – particularly at MBM and PIA Port – acknowledged progress made and included recommendations for further improvements. These suggestions are expected to guide future measures for enhanced security compliance across Albania’s maritime facilities.

Authorities said the visit serves as both a motivating factor and a strategic input for reprogramming national efforts to address shared challenges in port and ship safety, especially for Albanian-flagged vessels and ports across the country.
