NAPLES, Sept15 /ATA-Italpress/ Prime Minister Edi Rama told Italian media today that Albania and Italy share a long history of closeness and alliance, adding that Italy is the best representative of Albania’s interests within the European Union.

“When I said Italy is Albania’s European alter ego, I meant something sacred: a very long history, always full of important episodes marked by humanism, closeness and alliance — a history that must continue,” Prime Minister Edi Rama told Italian media.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said today that Albania is moving forward with accession negotiations, describing the process as a difficult journey that requires the country to complete its “homework” properly. He stressed that these tasks are necessary and help Albania grow institutionally.

Asked whether he is confident in the positive course of accession negotiations, Prime Minister Edi Rama replied he is “like the Neapolitans: always trusting, never pessimistic.” Rama is in Italy for the inauguration ceremony of Albania’s Honorary Consulate in Naples.

As part of his agenda in Italy, Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the Cathedral of the Albanian Language at the University “L’Orientale” and the University “Parthenope,” where he is attending a reception themed “Naples, a bridge of friendship, cooperation and development between Italy and Albania.”

Prime Minister Edi Rama’s visit to Italy will conclude with a meeting with the rectors of Naples universities. Together with Minister Mirela Kumbaro, he will discuss opportunities for synergies with Albanian universities in the framework of internationalisation.
