TIRANA, Oct 14 /ATA/ Mnister of Environment Sofjan Jaupaj met with Valentina Superti, Director for the Western Balkans at the European Commission, in Tirana today in the margins of the EU-Western Balkans Investment Forum.
The meeting focused on accelerating Albania’s EU accession process through the implementation of Chapter 27, which deals with environmental protection and climate change.
The meeting underscored the strategic significance of Chapter 27, recognizing it as one of the most demanding, yet essential, parts of the EU membership process.
The minister noted that Albania is moving ahead with legal reforms, infrastructure investments, and targeted circular economy projects, all aimed at fostering sustainable and environmentally friendly development.
“We are dedicated to aligning our environmental legislation with EU standards and developing an economy that conserves natural resources, minimizes pollution, and promotes the use of renewable energy,” the minister said.
Jaupaj described the cooperation with the European Commission as a strong guarantee that Albania is progressing steadily toward European Union membership. He emphasized that “environmental projects remain one of the key priorities on this journey.”
