Tomi Frashëri, the chairman of the Steering Council of AKEP, in his remarks during the presentation of the Report, said that the activity of AKEP for the year 2023 took on a special dimension in the framework of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the National Regulatory Body in the field of electronic and postal communications. “AKEP is an independent authority created by law and a public institution with well-defined tasks,” Frashëri said.

“The report presented today to the Assembly of Albania and the general public reflects in facts and figures an increased commitment of the institution in its areas of competence, but also the intensification of cooperation and coordination at various national, regional and international levels, vital for sustainable development in the sectors of electronic communications and postal services,” Frashëri said.
Furthermore, he underlined two achievements that go beyond the narrow scope of the activity of the institution, namely in the successful process of aligning the framework with the European legislation pertaining to the sectors under his responsibility, as well as in the drafting and adjustment of the new law “On electronic communications in the Republic of Albania,” where AKEP has made an essential contribution.

Further, Frashëri analyzed by providing figures and details for the year 2023, the postal sector, postal service entrepreneurs, the electronic communications market, mobile network operators, etc.
The rapporteur of the case, MP Laert Duraj, noted that out of 13 recommendations for AKEP, 5 of them have been addressed, including one of the main recommendations that the Assembly left to AKEP, that of crafting a new law on Electronic Communications and the Post Office, which was indispensable at this stage.
