The Bank of Albania reported on Tuesday that the national Euro payment system (AIPS Euro) recorded more than 27 000 Euro-denominated transfers with a value of 464 million euros in February 2025, significantly up from only 4.700 transactions with a value of 37 million euros during the same period of the previous year.

According to central bank, the number of Euro-denominated transfers rose 21% year-on-year, whereas the value of the transactions increased 8.6 % in February 2025.

Establishment of a national system for Euro-denominated transfers has had positive impact as it has significantly reduced the cost of these transfers. AIPS EURO is the system for real-time gross settlement of interbank customer payment orders in Euro currency in the country.

The AIPS EURO system has been running live since 24 January 2022. Participants in AIPS EURO include the Bank of Albania and 11 commercial banks as direct participants. AIPS EURO operates during 8:30 – 16:30.
